Washi Family
Run by: Sugoi Washi
Clan HistoryThe exact beginnings of the Washi clan are shrouded in mystery, with much of their history being lost or incredibly vague after their scattering across the world, however it is known that the family began in the Land of Wind, seemingly as mercenaries for hire, as with most of the shinboi clans. Known for their impressive physical prowess, the clan was comprised of proud warriors, with battle being enshrined in the traditions of the clan, and battle wounds seen as badges of honor. The clan was often thought to be a group of giants, and many came to fear the Washi in the ancient world. One of the fiercer families of the ancient Kaze no Kuni, they were present for the unification of Sunagakure, and began to fill many of the higher ranking roles in the village.
However, the Washi family were never bestowed with a particularly large population, and the fighting style taught to the clan involved a very upfront, violent and close quarters approach. Despite the fact that Washi were renowned for taking down large numbers of shinobi, they rarely survived without mutilation or death, and, coupled with quite a low birth rate, this led to the gradual disappearance of the Washi family. Still present in Sunagakure, they began to fade from proximity, fewer members filling important roles, and with most working behind the scenes as average shinobi.
The final blow came upon the schism, whereby the two brothers of the main branch grew embroiled in conflict. Both sons purported to have a claim to the title of leader. The eldest son, illegitimate, was nonetheless the firstborn, and adopted, whereas the younger son was a trueborn child. Although close as children, the two gradually grew apart, their dispute over leadership driving them apart, until they eventually decided to settle the dispute in a battle. The younger, legitimate child, triumphed, after a grueling struggle. However, he was deeply unpopular amongst many members of the clan, with the elder child having tried to understand the issues of the clan, and befriending many members.
Unwilling to follow the man, the victor furiously banished his elder brother, however found that many of his clansmen threatened to follow him. The renowned Washi pride saw him refuse to back down, and many left to follow the newfound 'Bastard King'. Washi records fail to mention what became of this branch, but it is believed members eventually joined various villages, creating a number of shinobi, all with the last name.
Eventually, the once mighty Washi clan had been reduced to a rather pitiful family, with only a handful of members. If any branch systems had existed, they were long forgotten, with merely a few strands of the family existing without any hierarchical system beyond a leader. A few years after Sugoi was adopted by the Eagles, a mysterious assailant appeared, launching an attack on the Washi estate. Whether a member of the bastard branch, or an enemy of the clan was irrelevant, as it was successful, and the remaining members were scattered, fearful to return due to the attacker. They dissipated across the world's shinboi villages, the last strands of the Washi clan fading into oblivion.
However, as word begins to spread of Kirigakure's new Mizukage being a Washi, many will no doubt come seeking answers, and sanctity.

Kirigakure is where the family officially resides, with its complex and majority of members being there, although members are known to be scattered around the globe.
Clan Traits: The Washi family vary have several defining traits that seem to pop up every generation. Brown hair is the norm, with tanned skin following suite. Even those raised in temperate climates are surprisingly pale, betraying their desert lineage.
Overbearing both physically and metaphorically, the Washi are known for their impressive physiques and forceful personalities. Many are exceptionally tall, six feet being considered short in the clan, and all are muscular, and even burly, once again reflecting their desert heritage. Determination is ubiquitous across the clan, as is stubbornness. The Washi are not quick to admit they are wrong, and an immense rage is present in most members, growing more subdued with age, but with members easy to incite when younger. Still, it isn't advisable to tick a Washi off too much, lest you have a gigantic barrel of muscle out for your blood.
Despite this, members of the family typically make loyal friends, with them not forgetting favors another has done for them, and often treasuring those that are close to them. However, members of the family tend to suffer from mild personality disorders, with it being particularly prevalent within those who wield, or carry the gene for, the Tensaigan.

Unique in the sense that the bloodline limit of the family is incredibly rare, the Washi are instead bound by a number of traits that set them apart from most other shinobi, and often make anyone who is a part of it recognizable to most who know the traits of the clan.
Tensaigan
S-rank Dojutsu
Users: Washi Family
A rare bloodline limit, occurring in less than 10% of the Washi family, this technique traditionally resided within the intelligentsia of the family, and carries with it its own dangers. A simple technique, taken to high levels, this Bloodline Limit occurs in one eye, amplifying the vision of the user exponentially. With it, they are able to perceive the most minute of details, such as the timing of an opponent's breathing patterns, any weapons they have on their person, alongside things that anyone else would miss. With it, the user can see through just about any Genjutsu, due to them noticing the minute ripples, disturbances, and details that the user would have inevitably missed. However, despite its uses, this technique has its own drawbacks. When manifested, the veins in the users's eye become incredibly prominent, with red lines becoming visible, as well as the enlarging of the iris and pupil. Excessive use has been known to lead to severe ocular and mental damage, due to the strain it places on these systems of the user, and it is typically accompanied by other issues, such as extreme sensitivity to light or even epilepsy, from birth in some cases. As such, it was seen as more of a curse than a blessing in the family, with it being a freakish mutation more so than an ability unique to the group.
The Tensaigan is the rarest ability of the Washi family, often regarded as a freak mutation rather than an ability of the clan. Those who wielded it typically filled the roles of scholars of trackers, depending on their supplementary skills, if they were not severely disabled during youth, or went insane or became incapacitated from overuse. Occurring in less than ten percent of the population, with even fewer surviving childhood, or retaining their sanity, alongside its somewhat innocuous appearance, most shinobi do not know the family for this trait, nor its existence.
Physical Strength
One of the identifying features of the Washi family, the clan is known for its exceptional physical strength amongst the shinobi world. Accompanying the impressive physiques and height of the clan, many in the family are renowned for their Taijutsu skills, and the majority of members choose to specialize in it. This immense strength manifests itself in youth, with a Washi always ahead of their peers in raw physical strength, reaching almost absurd levels later in life, with a fully grown member usually able to match an average shinobi pumping chakra into their arms. This is not a reference to those who specialize in chakra enhance strength, involving a constant flow of chakra, but rather someone using a burst of chakra to enhance a blow.

Name: Bird Contract
Weapon/Item Rank: N/A
Weapon/Item Owner: Sugoi Washi
Weapon/Item Description: The actual bird contract is nothing more then an average, run of the mill summoning scroll. It is a large sky blue scroll with the kanji for bird written on the front of it in a pure white text. Those who have summoned the scroll are capable of utilizing the Kuchiyouse no Jutsu (Summoning Technique) in order to summon various types of avian life. The birds summoned depends on not only the skill of the user, but personal preference.
Weapon/Item History: As long as man kind has existed they have relied on birds, for hunting, for food, even to deliver messages. So the bird contract is the natural progression of this bond. With it shinobi are capable of summoning birds in order to do aid them in battle and act as guides and companions in times of crisis. Although the contract formerly belonged to the Hidden Heat Haze Village it was later stolen by a group of shinobi who stowed it away in their home town which also served as their hideout and base of operations.
A contract obtained by Sugoi Washi, the family's de facto head, it signed once a Washi approaches him and reaches Kirigakure. Once the contract is made, the Washi will be assigned a bird companion, based on their temperament and personality. The family has a particular affinity toward eagles, although other types of bird can occur. Once a companion is assigned, the two become partners, with the Washi typically calling on them in battle, although they can still summon various other members of the contract. A period of training with the birds is customary, usually after their skills are sufficiently developed to summon multiple members of the contract.
