(Kekkei Genkai: Hanteigan)
Bloodline Trait: Judging Eyes
User: Masumi Maki
Description: An eternally active, rare, and supplementary Dojutsu that one in every billion children are born with. With the Hanteigan, the user is able to accurately “judge” a person. The judging is of course subjective, meaning that each individual will judge others differently. What this Doujutsu allows, is two things: 1) The user can tell if someone is lying, the instant that they lie. 2) It allows the user to know upon eye contact, whether or not the other person is a good person, by weighing their values, past actions, and personality against his. The major drawback to this ability is that basic elemental jutsu (Raiton, Doton,..etc) are unusable by the wielder. Instead, only complex elements can be used.
Elements: Mokuton, Hyouton
Other: Senjutsu
Inventory: Amenonuhoko (Naginata)
Masumi has led a very complicated life, since birth he was revered as a “God Child,” because of his Doujutsu. The Hanteigan or Judging Eyes. Upon his birth, and forever after, his eyes would be able to see the truth. The elders of Kinruigakure knew this, and had special provisions put in place to help the boy become a great and respected member of the village. Such as 24/7 watch to make sure that he was always protected.
When he was a small boy, he was able to tell every time his parents lied to him, and thus grew up living a life with virtually no imagination. Since imagination was a lie about reality, Masumi didn’t understand the need for it. He was even able to tell when his parents were lying to one another. For a time he held it in, but the honesty of a child is a brutal thing. He eventually started telling his parents in secret when the other was lying, and became middle man in a sad game of deceit between his parents. Both of whom were unfaithful to one another. In the end, his parents divorced, and he left their care altogether. He did not want to be around such filth as them, and he judged them unworthy.
At the age of 6, he went to stay with the village elders, and began learning Ninpo, training his body and spirit. After a time, Masumi became masterful in the basic arts of ninjutsu, and was eager to take the next step into elemental jutsu. To his dismay, he was informed that no one who possesses the Hanteigan can use the basic elements of ninjutsu. This, however, sparked curiosity in his mind. He told the elders that he would like to take the tests which tell his chakra type, even though they told him it was useless. He took the chakra paper test, and like the elders had told Masumi, nothing happened. This is when he had an idea, he instructed the elders to place two papers on the ground, no more than an inch apart. When they had done so, he placed his hands on them and poured his chakra into the papers. In an event never seen before, from beneath his hands, flowers began to grow. Masumi’s first element was to be Mokuton, Wood Release. He trained day in and day out to master the element.
It took him two years to master Mokuton’s basic jutsu, because of his body’s natural unwillingness to learn basic elemental jutsu. He lacked the knowledge of how to use doton, and suiton, but somehow could combine the two to make Mokuton. After his master of the style, he wondered if he could use any other complex elemental jutsu. Since he knew his body could manipulate doton, and suiton, he figure starting with one of those would be a good starting point. After several more of the chakra tests, one stuck. He placed his hand on the papers like before, and ice began to grow around his hand. With a huge smile, he ran to immediately begin his training. This time, it only took him one year to master Hyouton, as he had a wealth of knowledge pertaining to suiton, and using complex elements.
With his strikingly feminine but handsome looks, Hanteigan, and his elemental Justu, Masumi became more and more the God Child everyone thought that he was. He was offered a spot on the council as the one who would determine find the dishonest. Unfortunately, he did just that. He exposed the couple of the council members for the cheats that they were, inciting anger with some of the Villagers that loved and respected the elders. Shortly after, he was attacked by them. He was unable to figure out why they were so angry with him; he was just doing as they asked. He equated that it meant that they were jealous of him. An unbecoming trait of anyone, so he judged them unworthy of living. He used his unique mastery to slay those who opposed him, explaining to the elders that they were the same as the ones he had cast out.
From that day forward, until the age of 15, Masumi would sit in the Holy Temple of Kinruigakure, and Judge those who wished to be judged, and those who were forced to be judged by the black ops and police units. After two years of sitting in the same place, every day, Masumi noticed something strange when he began to focus in the times between judging. He had learned to sense natural energy. In much the same way as he learned Hyouton and Mokuton, Masumi reviewed text of Senpo and natural energy. With his curiosity piqued, he dug and dug, eventually finding out that several miles outside the village, there was a pure place in the poisonous forest. There was a small bit of the forest where it was said that Unicorns lived, on the edge of what used to be a swamp, but now was crystal clear water. Masumi made up his mind, and would search for it. With all his provisions packed up, he left Kinruigakure in the night, intent on never returning to such a foul place.
After several days of hard searching, and becoming poisoned by the damned forest of mushrooms. He found the utopia of the forest. The place where unicorns lived. He collapsed on the fresh grass, trying to breathe it in, hoping to save his own life, but was unable to feel better. Then he crawled to the edge of the embankment, thinking that drinking the crystal waters would be better, alas he was wrong there too. He did, however, successfully poison the ground that he touched, and the water he drank. A loud neighing was heard, and a thunderous roar of hooves behind it. In an instant there was a large horse beside him, who knelt and stuck its horn into the water, effectively purifying it. The horse spoke to Masumi, “What are you doing insolent child, do you not what this place is?!” Masumi looked up weakly at the horse, no a unicorn, and was overcome with its beauty. In a similar manner, the unicorn was astonished at what she had seen. The boys eyes, the faint pink, she knew exactly what is was. She pressed her face to his, and healed all of Masumi’s ailments. “Come, there is someone you need to meet.” The unicorn took Masumi to meet the elder Unicorn, who also saw the boys eyes and recognized that he was special. For in the Unicorn culture, those eyes were revered not as the eyes that judge, but the eyes of the most pure. A gap in translation that turned fortuitous for the boy.
After several years of training in Senpo, Masumi mastered the Unicorn Sage arts, and on his 20th birthday, he set out from them, wishing his unicorn servants well. Now he had it in his head that he was indeed the God Child, and it was his duty to bring purity to the world. He would judge them all.
